Prologis has organized flood defenses in Prologis Park Budapest-Harbor with the customers’ safety and environmental concerns in mind.
The flood of the decade threatened all Danube-adjacent territories in the capital of Hungary, including the logistics park of Prologis Park Budapest-Harbor. The real estate developer and asset management company has organized flood defences on the site with the customers’ safety and environmental concerns in mind.
Prologis’ team planned the necessary measures, in cooperation with the technical operator partners. On site, sandbags were prepared and filled, storm drains were weighted, and every check valve, drainage ditch and sluice were checked. The team constantly monitored water levels to ensure that they could take immediate action and alert authorities in case of an emergency. They also communicated the state of flood management and developments to customers. Preparations were made for animals – beavers, deers, hedgehogs, rodents – living in the floodplain who might seek temporary homes in Prologis Park Budapest-Harbor as water levels rise.
Due to the vigilance and efficiency of Prologis’ team and the operator partners, the flooding did not cause any damage to the industrial park next to the Danube.
„Damaging of 1.3 km of dam adjacent to Prologis Park Budapest-Harbor could affect an area of 45 hectares”, said Lóránd Gárdonyi, Real Estate & Customer Experience Director at Prologis, Hungary, who oversaw the flood control operations in the Budapest 22nd district industrial park.
„At Prologis, we always strive to ensure our staff, customers, and local community remain safe. This is why, in the event of a risk of damaging the dam, our team worked tirelessly to ensure everyone in the area was well-protected. We’d like to thank our partners and customers, especially their employees, who volunteered to work on dam protection, as well as local authorities, with whom we partnered to stave off the potential risks.”
